Andre Onana will leave Manchester United on loan and head to Trabzonspor this summer, but the goalkeeper has no intention of returning after seeing his form in Turkey
Andre Onana has benefited greatly from his loan spell from Manchester United, but is set to return to the Premier League side once his spell in Turkey ends.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper was surprisingly released after deadline day as the Red Devils granted him a move to Trabzonspor on a full £170,000-a-week wage. The new surroundings appear to be paying off for the goalkeeper, who endured a difficult two years at Old Trafford.
Signed by Erik ten Hag, his time in Manchester was marked by high-profile errors that often led to goals. His position was under threat when he started the year, as number one player Ruben Amorim opted to sign Senne Lamence in the second half.
However, The Sun reported that Onana is “feeling the love” in Turkey, which is helping him rediscover his best form. Sources close to Onana admit the goalkeeper was mentally depressed after two difficult seasons.
The former Inter Milan number one is feeling more relaxed and confident at Trabzonspor, who are second in the Turkish league behind champions Galatasaray, and they are exploring the possibility of signing him on a permanent contract.

But Onana’s intentions are to return to Manchester and re-establish his place as number one there. The goalkeeper privately admits that he struggled at United, even though he often came out to defend his actions and record, even though he was left out by Amorim last season.
His last appearance for the Premier League side came in the Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town on penalties. The defeat at Blundell Park was one of their lowest conceded in recent memory, with Onana making another blunder and struggling to save spot-kicks.
Amorim confessed that it was best for everyone involved to change the situation. “We saw Andre having a very, very good season at Inter. The quality is there. But we are at the club and sometimes things get harder and harder in the moment. We have a lot of experience, but at this club the pressure on every detail can be very intense.”
“I think we understood that this needed a change. Sometimes it’s hard to point out why. It’s performances, it’s moments. Some unlucky moments were hard for him and hard for us. Our idea is to change the goalkeeper.”
