Manchester United have agreed a deal to appoint Brentford chief operating officer Amesh Manek as the club’s new director of football operations.
Manchester United are set to appoint Brentford chief operating officer Amesh Manek as their new head of football operations. The Bees chief has reportedly agreed to take on the role, and staff at both clubs were informed of the decision earlier today.
Manek is set to relocate north, where he will be responsible for managing United’s Carrington training ground. His duties also include overseeing “travel, security, training facilities, staff management and infrastructure.”
He is the latest in a series of leadership changes at the club, following the departure of Omar Berrada from Manchester City, the appointment of Jason Wilcox as technical director and the appointment of Mark Armstrong as the club’s chief business officer.

Interestingly, the post of director of football operations was previously made redundant by United’s minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, with David Harrison filling the role from 2023 to 2025.
Mr. Harrison was fired earlier this year, one of the most high-profile departures in Mr. Ratcliffe’s cost-cutting efforts.
Manek will fill the vacancy after three years at the Bees, according to the BBC. He initially joined the Club as Director of Business Operations and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in July 2024.
Manek spent five years at Arsenal before joining Brentford, eventually becoming the first team’s head of football operations.
His previous role at the Bees was said to be more administrative, but his new role at United will reportedly focus more on football issues for both the men’s and women’s teams.
United have made a number of executive appointments in recent weeks, with Stephen Torpey leaving Brentford to become the club’s new academy director.
