As Premier League clubs wait for players to return from international break in October, Florian Wirths is ramping up his efforts to start the season with Liverpool and Germany.
Florian Wirtz has had a poor start to life at Liverpool since his £116m move from Bayer Leverkusen, but the German is determined to turn things around. Despite the fanfare that greeted his arrival, the 22-year-old playmaker has faced criticism for a quiet start under champion Arne Slott.
Wirtz is yet to score or assist in the Premier League, having featured as a substitute in recent games against Everton and Chelsea. His only goal contribution so far was an assist on his debut against Crystal Palace in the Community Shield, and the playmaker has now made 10 appearances in all competitions for the club.
Given his hefty price tag and high expectations, many pundits were quick to comment on Wirtz’s performance and his use in the slot, increasing scrutiny of the player and club. Despite this, Wirtz has received a lot of support from Germany and some legends are convinced that he will soon show his true qualities at Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Wirtz will be hoping to make an impression during the October international break. Germany will host Luxembourg on Friday in their latest World Cup qualifier before traveling to Northern Ireland on Monday.
Werts at least scored a stunning free-kick in a come-from-behind win against Michael O’Neill’s side during the last international break, and that goal is his only goal for club or country so far this season. The midfielder is now reportedly undergoing additional training sessions to rediscover his best form ahead of the upcoming game against Germany.
After Germany’s training session ended on Tuesday, Wirth newspaper reported that Wirtz remained on the training pitch for additional shooting drills and then headed to the gym for further weight training. Germany national team colleague David Raum also reportedly praised the Liverpool man, while acknowledging Wirtz’s extra effort in national team training.
“The boy is hardworking and shows energy on and off the pitch,” he said. “He was one of the players who played the longest on the pitch today.
“We believe in the boy and we are raising him here. But he also knows what he is capable of.”
As the player continues to adapt to the demanding physical environment of the Premier League, and given his limited goalscoring record this season, the supplementary work that Wirths is undertaking on the training ground could only benefit him both in terms of starting his Liverpool career and in silencing any doubts.
