Viktor Gyokeres doesn’t enjoy a rich start to the season, but the Swedish star national coach claims that the Arsenal striker is still making a big impact
Swedish boss John Dahl Thomason jumped to the defense of Arsenal striker Victor Gjoker.
The gunner spent £64 million to land the service from Sport Lisbon. Gyokeres established himself as a leading male in the line under Mikel Arteta, but no targets were expected.
The former Coventry City star has scored three times since moving to the Emirates, but is in the middle of a six-game goalless run that has attracted criticism. Arsenal knew they needed a prolific No 9 and landed on Gyoker to promote their ambitions.
It was said that playing on the UK’s top flight would be a step forward from his time in Portugal, but Gyoker was also effective in the Champions League. And now the boss of his national team has come out firmly in his defense.
Thomason said Monday: “Viktor Gyoker is in a very good shape at the moment, very good. If people say it won’t affect them (in the game), they don’t understand football and there’s no clue about football.

“It’s great, he’s almost always getting a goal, so he’s making an impact and it’s very good. It’s always great because he needs time to come to a new club.”
The 27-year-old scored 15 times in his country on 28 outings in Sweden. Ten of them came alone in 2024, and the strikers enjoy the club and the country’s prolific year. Last November, Sweden scored four points in Azerbaijan’s defeat to make its first World Cup since 2018.
Despite Gyoker’s lack of goals so far, his club teammates are undoubtedly sitting at the top of the Premier League to increase great value.
Bukayo Saka said, “I think Victor plays really, really well. I’m sure he’s trying to score goals. What brings us this team, as his teammate, is what he’s doing – the way he has the ball, how he runs, the threat he puts on us.
“He’s a big part of why we win these games. His goals will come. We believe it, we believe in him. I don’t think there’s any doubt.
