Alejandro Garnacho’s Chelsea teammates give a sneak peek behind the curtain
Alejandro Garnacho is settling into life at Chelsea and has been described by his team-mates as a “great person”. The Argentine star is a controversial figure in some quarters, particularly among Manchester United fans.
His Old Trafford career was marred by falling outs with Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim, with both regularly struggling to get the best out of him. Garnacho’s time at United ended on a sour note, with him publicly complaining about starting on the bench in the Europa League final and branding the season as “the worst”.
It was therefore no surprise that Chelsea paid £40m for him and left United before the transfer deadline. Garnacho’s career at Stamford Bridge is yet to take off, but his presence is being felt off the pitch.
That is especially true of fellow new signing Facundo Buonanotte, an Argentine who speaks highly of both Garnacho and another compatriot Enzo Fernandes. Buonanotte, who joined on loan from Brighton in the summer, told DSports Radio that Garnacho is a “very good guy”.
“I have a very good relationship with him. I’ve known him since he was in the national team, but we’re the same age, so now we share a lot on a daily basis. It’s made our relationship even better.”

“He may have had some problems at the club, which can happen to any player, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that he’s a great person. And here at Chelsea, we’re very happy to have him.”
This assessment may come as a surprise to some, but you can tell a lot about Garnacho’s personality off the pitch. Meanwhile, Buonanotte said Fernandes played a key role in helping him and Garnacho settle at Chelsea.
He added: “Enzo was the first person to write to me when I decided to join the club, and I was very grateful.”
“You see how good he is. There’s no need to say anything about what he’s like on the pitch, because he’s a great player, everyone knows that, but on top of that he’s a great human being.”
“He is always trying to help Garnacho, me and everyone else. Enzo is the fundamental pillar here. He is our captain. I am very happy to share many moments with him and learn from him every day.”
Buonanotte and Garnacho will have extra time to adapt to life at Chelsea after being left out of Argentina’s squad for friendlies against Venezuela and Puerto Rico in the United States, one of the co-hosts of next year’s World Cup. Chelsea return to Premier League action at Nottingham Forest on October 18th.
