The Rangers were the first club to give Gerrard a chance to become a senior management position, and he looked back at his time at Ibrox, which he described as the “perfect match.”
“When I stopped playing football, it was a huge blank for me,” he said. “And even if I knew my body was ready to stuff, I couldn’t really be the player I wanted to be, I was probably ready at the time.
“I missed it every day, but still as a player. I was eligible to badge when I entered my 30s, I got a professional license and entered the Academy in Liverpool, and I enjoyed a lot of it.
“But what I enjoyed was the managing side of it. I think a one-on-one motivating player can make a difference from a player to get more from that individual player.
“Then I had the opportunity to go to Rangers and I loved it. I felt it was the perfect match and it continued from there.”
When asked what the future holds, Gerrard revealed that he has been approached by several clubs since leaving Al Ettifac earlier this year. He also said he was ready to come with the “right challenge.”
“I’ve had five or six very interesting calls since I stopped in Saudi Arabia, but I wasn’t ready because the team wasn’t set up around me,” he explained.
“The timing was incorrect. My daughter had a baby. I became a grandfather. I wasn’t ready. The staff wasn’t ready.
“But the right calls set my way, the right club, the right challenge, and I set my people.
