Reuben Amorim’s tenure at Manchester United has been struggling so far, and Jamie Carrager doesn’t believe that Christmas will be held before the Portuguese manager is fired
Jamie Carrager believes Manchester United’s sacking of Reuben Amorim is “inevitable” and he believes he will be fired before Christmas. Although he won his third win of the season on Saturday, Old Trafford is full of dark clouds.
Amorim is about to celebrate his first anniversary as manager in Manchester, but there are few cheers. Since he took office, United have had the worst performance in the Premier League, resulting in the worst last season ever.
Despite the full preseason this year and the arrival of more than £200 million new talent, little has changed, and Amorim’s philosophy has yet to deliver results. The Portuguese manager is sticking to a 3-4-3 formation, which continues to cause problems for the players.
United leaders support Amorim and claim he is eligible to spend a season showing what he can do with the team, but Carrager claims former manager Sporting Lisbon will be absent on December 25th.
“I don’t like saying that the manager should be fired, but that’s rude and it’s a guy’s job — but I’m at the stage where I think Reuben Amorim’s job can’t be maintained. This kind of thing happens before Christmas,” a Sky Sports critic told the Overlap Fan debate.

“His performance is incredible for a manager at Manchester United. He played in 50 games as manager at Manchester United, but only two more goals than he conceded.”
Of the 50 games he led the club, he still couldn’t lead the club to a consecutive Premier League title, highlighting his struggles. His loss in the final match of the Europa League last season and his performance were even more blows for Amorim.
Already this season, United have lost to Arsenal, Manchester City and Burnley, but have been eliminated in the Carabao Cup to Grimsby in League 2 with a record low.
Carrager’s view also supports United legend Paul Scholes, suggesting that the head coach has already passed its grace period given the long-standing slump.
“I think we’ve come to a point where we don’t want to talk about the manager’s dismissal all the time with Reuben Amorim, but Manchester United is giving the managers plenty of time,” he said.
“He’s never going to get booed by the fans, and I thought ‘He’s been taking a little too long’ before Brentford (losing 3-1), and it felt like it was only a matter of time before things were over.”
