Mikel Arteta has made many additions to the Arsenal team this summer.
Arsenal has been busy tying many senior stars to the New Deal, but one such agreement was mostly sealed with fanfare. Unlike William Saliba’s recent extension, David Raya’s improved contract in North London was not announced by the club, but news of the deal is now beginning to pop up.
Raya joined Arsenal in 2023 on his first loan agreement from Brentford, and the move became permanent the following summer. Spanish International is one of the most consistent performers of gunners, helping the club stay competitive both domestically and in Europe.
According to BBC Sport, Raya saw wages rise above £100,000 after agreeing to a term over the summer. The length of his contract remains the same — as in the situation where Leandro Trossard agreed to the new terms earlier this year — but Gunners has reportedly had the option to expand the deal beyond its current endpoint in 2028.
An update to the Trossard transaction was reported in August, but it was not announced by Arsenal at the time. The Belgian international trade is understood to run until the summer of 2027.
Raya, who turned 30 in September, has been Arsenal since the arrival of Premier League Arsenal, and he has been unable to assert, except for two games with his then-parent club Brentford. He also started everything except one of last season’s Gunners Champions League matches as Mikel Arteta oversaw the run to the semi-finals.

“I’ve come one step further in my career and come here,” Raya told club media after winning Nottingham Forest to bring the club’s 100th appearance. “I think that was the right decision.”
“When I came here, Aaron (Ramsdale) was a goalkeeper and playing, I did my best on the pitch, did my best off the pitch, gave the boss a reason to choose me.
“I think it was probably the case that he debuted two years ago. It was incredible from there. And with that record, 42 clean sheets, the credit goes to the team and staff.”
Since then, Raya has added three more pretty sheets to the Arsenal colours. Two of them came to Europe with a 2-0 victory at the Athletic Club and the Olympiacos, but Arteta’s side defeated West Ham on the same scoreline in the Premier League on Saturday.
“It’s incredible. And I was hammered when I brought him, so that’s a point of view,” Arteta told reporters when Raya raised his century appearance. “It’s really good to understand the game, especially when months or years have passed. It’s really good to look back and look back on that too.”
