Gary Reinker supports Liverpool Miss Trent Alexander Arnold’s remarks from Jamie Redknap, especially Muhammad Sarah feels the absence of his previous right-back. Alexander Arnold joined Real Madrid at the beginning of the summer window after choosing to sign a new contract at Anfield.
Alexander Arnold was poised to leave Liverpool as a free agent, but signed a contract with Real Madrid to move the defender before his contract expired to feature in the FIFA Club World Cup. It relied on the Reds on £10 million and then moved to take Jeremy Fripon from Bayer Rewelkusen, but Connor Bradley remained at Anfield. On Saturday, Liverpool was hit by a 2-1 defeat against Chelsea in the Premier League, claiming three consecutive losses in all competitions.
And Ringer believes Alexander Arnold is badly overlooked. “From a creativity perspective, I think they really lack torrent, just like anything else,” he said. “Before that, sometimes the torrents will move forward and perhaps they will be exposed defensively.
“But it’s impossible to exchange for him to give you something else to go. There’s no other player I can think of in world soccer where he plays that position (right back) in the way he plays it offensively.
“I also think Mo (Salah) is missing him. That connection they had.
“You have to say it’s worth his weight in the future gold, and I always say, “Stop worrying about him (Alexander Arnold) making strange little mistakes defensive.”
Lineker’s observations reflect what Redknapp said over the weekend, and the former Liverpool captain also reflects his belief that his previous club struggled at right back.
Redknapp outlined how Alexander Arnold’s exit caused “difficulty” in this campaign manager slot. “They’re having problems with fullbacks. They’re losing Trent (Alexander Arnold),” Rednap told Sky Sports on Saturday.
“They haven’t played the same right-back since Burnley’s game. (Connor) Bradley had a tough 45 minutes.
“They have problems across the pitch, but especially with a fullback with Robertson’s injury at the end. This international break could be a good chance to reset.”
