Former West Ham star Knife Aguerdo was reportedly assaulted at the airport before he announced his international mission with Morocco. The 29-year-old, who recently signed Marseille, was preparing to jump out of the French city on a Sunday evening. The defender was relaxing in the VIP lounge waiting for his flight when the incident occurred.
According to BFM Marseille-Provence, a man approached Aguerd in search of his phone number and a selfie. The man is then reported to him “speaking up and trying to slap him.” At this point, the lounge’s security staff stepped in and police arrested the man. The perpetrator was questioned by authorities, but Aglud had no time to file a formal complaint as he had to leave to join his Moroccan teammate.
Morocco will host Bahrain in a friendly match on Thursday before qualifying for the World Cup against the Congo. Under the leadership of Walid Regragui, the team has already secured their position in North America and have won all of their qualifying matches so far.
With only two recognized goals, Aguerd helped to form a robust defense. Winning the Congo, they will prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations in December and the World Cup next summer.
Aguerd signed West Ham in the summer of 2022 with a £30 million contract from French costume Rennes. He has won four times in 61 matches for Hammer and four times.
The defender played a key role in one of West Ham’s most memorable nights, helping to secure a 2-1 victory for Fiorentina to win the Conference League Trophy in 2023.
The Centre Half was sent on loan to Real Sociedad last summer and then returned to East London for the current campaign.
Aguerd played 90 minutes with West Ham opening two Premier League fixtures before Marseille moved. Roberto de Zerbi’s outfit jumped out about £20 million to secure his signature.
Following the switch to Marseille, Aguerd said: “We are so happy to be part of the Marseille Olympics and look forward to discovering this mythical stadium, the Verodrome and discovering the most beautiful atmosphere of France and Europe.
The Giants in the South have flew the campaign and are enjoying four matches of victory. They backed up the results with victory over Strasbourg, Ajax and the Mets after beating Paris Saint-Germain last month.
Marseille is currently taking the second spot in League One, pushing the leader down with one point.
