Russell Martin says he will not leave the Rangers despite winning speculation about his future following a disappointing draw with Falkirk. The Glasgow Giants struggled with John McGlyn’s team. He fought hard for the deserved draw and was more likely to secure a victory at Falkirk Stadium.
The Ibrox hierarchy is currently facing important decisions about Martin’s future as the Rangers are now in eighth place in the Premiership Table after a disastrous start to the season. International Break offers them the opportunity to x Martin and replace him before players return from playing for their country. However, when asked when asked about Sky Sports’ suitability for the job, Martin replied with emphasis.
He added: “So it doesn’t even come to the equation. I’ll continue working with the players and staff – the people I feel are very good with us, the players have really good connections, good understanding, hunger, and we can’t translate that into results at this point.”
When asked about the fans’ belief that little has improved since the start of the season, he replied.
“But there was an improvement. Maybe it’s not a result, it’s a performance – a lot. But I know that everyone wants to win the game.
“At this club, you can hear people always say, ‘We need to win.’ We also need ways to win, learn, grow and develop.
“In my opinion, you can’t win sustainably. Without a team of seasoned men gathering under thousands of games, you can’t win.
“We don’t have that. We have a lot of young players who are growing up to it. My job is to keep trying to help them, and I do that until they are told not to.
“I understand that. It’s part of this job – at any football club – here is more scrutiny and strength than most places, but I’m something you have to deal with and I’ll make the most of my abilities so that I don’t say it, like I said.”
Annoyed Martin was interrupted when his comments about “until I was told not to be told” were highlighted.
“But it’s always the same answer – I don’t control it. I felt like everyone today really supports it. This morning I’m keeping my focus on what I have control over: the players and work.
