Howard Webb admits Man utd at the wrong end of big Val error in Brentford’s loss | Football | Sports

Chief of Judge Howard Webb confirmed to Manchester United that they were the victims of a major mistake in their 3-1 defeat to Brentford last weekend, according to a new report. United suffered an overwhelming loss in West London, which put even more pressure on manager Reuben Amorim, but the club believed they were on the receivers of the poor host.

Bruno Fernandez saw a penalty saved by Kaoimhin Keleher after Nathan Collins fouled Brian Mbemo. Collins was rescued by his keeper and attacked it with two counts as he dodged the red card to carry United’s attackers within the penalty area while he was preparing to film.

Referee Craig Pawson chose not to send him, his phone was backed by VAR, and Premier League Match Center later issued a statement to clarify their reasoning. “The referee’s penalty call was checked and confirmed by Var. Collins was deemed to have pulled Mbeumo back,” he read. “Val also checked Collins for the umpire’s yellow card call and thought Mbeumo was not in control of the ball.”

That reasoning was under intense scrutiny and as Brentford had defended 11 men, they scored again in stop time to secure a 3-1 victory. United felt it was tough, and the Daily Mail reported that they contacted professional match officials for clarification.

United Top Brass, CEO Omar Bellada and technical director Jason Wilcox later received responses from PGMO Chief Webb.

This is not the first time Webb has admitted to a famous gaffe this season. Former Premier League umpire Mark Halsey remained gobsmacked by this.

Halsey said: “The Match Center statement said Mbeumo has no control over the ball. The law doesn’t say anything about controlling the ball.

“It’s about the possibility of controlling the ball. In my view, the match center statement was absolute garbage and a clear and clear denial of the opportunity to score goalscoring.”

Webb also supported this week’s decision to overturn Arsenal’s penalty against Newcastle when Victor Gjoker got entangled with Nick Pope. “Val checks the penalty,” Webb revealed in a microphone-up show for Premier League match officials.

“When he does that, he sees Gyoker clearly and tweaks it a little while ago, but importantly, Nick Pope moves forward with his right foot and changes direction the ball is in and gets a very clear touch to the ball.
