Alexander Isaac has admitted that he is still building towards 100% fitness after his second Premier League start at Liverpool was also defeated in a 2-1 loss to Chelsea on Saturday. Isak sealed off the £125 million switch from Newcastle United on the deadline (September 1) after missing out on a proper preseason at St. James Park due to refusing to train or play the magpies.
After an injury that excluded him from Newcastle’s Far East tour in July, ISAK was trained with former club Real Sociedad without the consent of Magpie management. He was trained in isolation when he returned to Tyneside. Since joining Liverpool, the 26-year-old has followed a specific fitness regime conceived by Arne Slot and his conditioning team at Axa Training Center.
The Reds manager recently admitted that no. 9 is considered to be a perfect match until after the international break in October. Isaac joined the Liverpool equalizer at Stamford Bridge, setting up a leveler for Cody Gakupo with a clever touch, and looking back on his 74-minute outing in the capital, the striker commented:
“I’ve worked so hard to do my best, but I’m still working to get to the best shape. It was good to play again. I was hoping for a different outcome, but we’re still working and I’m very excited for the whole season that’s coming.”
“Game by game, if you want to achieve what you want to do, of course you need to improve. But yeah, I’m really excited (for the Manchester United game).
“We came out late and gave everything to get results, and in the end, it’s obviously difficult at such a last minute.
“I think we created enough opportunities to score. Today it wasn’t enough. Winning like this is the best feeling and losing this kind of way is the worst.
“I think there’s a belief that we can do it (improve the results). This team has shown it many times. Of course, it’s not easy, but we can work hard and get back to our best — we have that belief.”
