Crystal Palace Manager Oliver Grasner remains in the frame of the Manchester United Hot Seat as pressure is put on boss Reuben Amorim. Amorim has managed just 18 wins from 49 games during his tenure with the Red Devils.
Last weekend, a 3-1 loss to Brentford spurred rumors surrounding Portuguese manager Old Trafford’s future with United in 14th place in the Premier League table, earning two victories from the first six fixtures. Glasner’s reputation has skyrocketed following the palace’s incredible FA Cup final and a perfect start to the current campaign. The 51-year-old Austrian took over Roy Hodgson in February 2024 when he grabbed the reins at Selhurst Park and took over. Amorim reportedly still enjoys support from the boardroom ahead of Saturday’s major clash with Sunderland.

Nevertheless, if Ineos decides to x him, Glasner appears as a major candidate for that role. If an Austrian tactician switches to Old Trafford, his palace ranks have a wealth of quality and he may consider taking him to Old Trafford.
Adam Wharton
Wharton has established himself as one of Europe’s most coveted central midfielders. The Ex-Blackburn Rovers star has been permanently linked to the switch to Old Trafford for nearly 12 months, with former United legend Rio Ferdinand declared he’ll snap the player “in the heartbeat.”
The 21-year-old had a challenging season due to injuries, but he was still able to provide two assists in 20 league games from midfield base. Wharton was consistent with Glasner’s team this year, contributing to one assist and impressed with his ability to control the game from the deep while protecting the deep.
England International is valued at the palace at around £100 million and is under contract until 2029. However, United were unable to strengthen their midfield in the summer.

With Amorim leaving and Glasner taking over, it’s almost certain that Wharton will be at the top of the wish list of players bringing him from the Eagles.
Daniel Munoz
The Palace signed Muñoz (29) from Genk midway through the 2023/24 season, and he quickly made an impact. The offensive fullback provided four assists in 16 games in his first half season in South London. Last season he scored four goals and provided five assists.

The Columbia star has given one assist in six Premier League matches so far this season, receiving praise from Jamie Carrager following Palace’s victory over Liverpool last weekend. Munoz also scored the Palace’s first European away goal in a 2-0 victory over Dynamo Kiev on Thursday night. The doors are certainly open as Diogo Dalot struggles to secure a right-wing back position.
Mark Guech
Guehi, 25, was on the verge of joining United’s arch rival Liverpool this summer. A £35 million contract was introduced at an English centre-back who is receiving medical care.

However, the palace halted its deal at the last minute. Guehi is his final year at Selhurst Park and Liverpool is expected to make another move for a free transfer next summer, but they could face tough competition.
If Glasner becomes United’s new manager, he will be the ideal candidate due to Guehi’s free agent status and being good at playing in the back three. However, Real Madrid is reportedly interested, and although their manager-player relationships seem tense at times, he presents a less realistic option.
Jean Philippe Mateta
Mateta scored 17 goals for the Palace last season, and has already scored four points in all competitions this year. The robust Frenchman linked to many clubs in the summer, so the palace reportedly valued him at around £45 million.
United have invested heavily this summer in revamping the forward line with Brian Mbeumo, Benjamin Cesco and Mateus Cunya, but Mateta can offer United’s improved attack, an attribute that doesn’t have the strength of the brute.

Speaking about the Good, Bad and Football podcasts, former United midfielder Paul Scholes suggested that United should make a move for the 28-year-olds who have just received their first call to the French team.
“I said the transfer deadline last January, Man United needed Mateta at the palace,” he said. “Big, strong, lead the line, he is a threat and causes problems. But he is not going to buy him because he is “Crystal Palace.” He doesn’t fit the bill. He’s not fashionable. He’s a much better player than Sesco and he does that in the Premier League.”
Ismaila Saar
Sarle initially struggled at the palace after switching from Marseille in 2024. Nevertheless, he flourished as a versatile attacker who could manipulate anywhere on the frontline while he had a keen eye on the goal.

Sarr netted his final campaign 12 times, celebrating his excellent relationship with Glasner for helping him settle into life with the Eagles. The 27-year-old encounters tough competition at United, but represents an extremely useful addition to a team.

The former Watford star’s strike also helped the palace overcome Liverpool last weekend. Senegal International boasts an intriguing record for the Anfield side, earning five goals and two assists in eight encounters with the Premier League champions. It’s definitely an aspect that will attract United supporters, even if Glassner secures position and brings Saa along.
