Thomas Tuschel opens on Jude Bellingham’s phone and explains England’s snubs | Football | Sports

Thomas Tuschel explained why he chose to leave Jude Bellingham from the England team for international equipment this month. The midfielder was widely expected to be named in the group after he recovered from an injury that left his final team. However, he was omitted from the list of players announced Friday morning.

It came days after Bellingham was voted as a supporter for England’s Player of the Year for the 2024/25 season. Phil Foden and Jack Grelish were also removed from the team, with Touchel primarily choosing the same group he went to last month. Quized by his decision to omit Bellingham, he reveals that while he is eager to see the midfielder being called, he has been overlooked because he is “lack of rhythm.”

“First of all, Jude is a very special player,” Tuchel says. “For special players, there are always special rules. For this camp, we decided to invite the same team. That applies to Jude. He deserves to be in camp at all times.

“The situation is that he hasn’t gathered a full rhythm. He hasn’t completed one full match and only started one match. When he returns to full strength, there’s an extra layer in the decision.

“He wanted to be called. We called, but he just lacked rhythm. We stayed with our decision. That’s the decision for this camp.

“Jack (Greyle) is a very good moment. Phil (Foden) is a very good moment. Adam Wharton deserves to be with us. Curtis Jones gets a few minutes at Liverpool.

“Cole Palmer was injured. He’s a very special character, he can decide on a match and become a special player for us. This is always something like this. Nominations allow you to discuss and decide these cases infinitely.”

Asked if there was a problem between himself and Bellingham, the English boss replied: “It’s not a nasty conversation. It’s simple. Explain your reason.

“It’s not troublesome, it’s necessary, it’s part of the job. They’re not the nicest one. It’s always good to give good news, but it has to be done. Players have to accept it.

“Do you think we’re a strong team with Jude?

“It’s a team sport. Like Cole Palmer today, if a player gets injured, you have to find a solution. I found a solution at the last camp.

“This is more about the last camp and what we started building, rather than relying on individual players. This is not going to be a solution that depends on one player in football.”
