The future of Pep Guardiola, debated as Man City icon claims fresh work

Pep Guardiola has been in charge of Manchester City for nearly 10 years, but club legend David Silva believes he knows that managers can do the following

David Silva shared his verdict on what role Pep Guardiola should play when he finally decided to leave Manchester City. The 54-year-old is approaching a decade at the helm of the city and has recently written a fresh two-year deal.

City began to struggle last season, and concerns have emerged that by enduring third in the Premier League and enduring the elimination of the early Champions League, Guardiola may decide to oppose an extension of his contract. Despite this, Guardiola put the extension pen on paper last November and committed to the club until 2027.

Despite Guardiola’s dedication to City, the club’s legend Silva believes his former manager should explore international football during his coaching career. World Cup winner Silva believes Guardiola will be the ideal candidate for Spain’s job.

“I want to see him as a Spanish manager,” Silva said. “Luis de la Fuente is doing an incredible job right now, but it’s good to have a PEP in the future.

“He brought a style of football based on good ball control and was able to always go out to win the game. It’s a bit similar to the philosophy of the current Spanish national team.”

Silva, who won an impressive 125 caps in Spain and was part of a team that won three consecutive major tournaments between 2008 and 2012, signed City from Valencia in 2010.

In a city television documentary celebrating Silva’s career, created in Gran Canaria, Guardiola said:

He added: “If we’re talking about the top five, David is one of them and I won’t lightly say that.” Silva played a total of 436 games with the club, earning four Premier League titles and several other major honors.

Fortunately, for the city, the possibility that Guardiola will take on the Spanish job is not an urgent concern, especially given the new deal for the manager. In January, Spanish boss de La Fuente received a contract extension until the end of Euro 2028 after leading the country to victory last summer.

Meanwhile, Guardiola is fully committed to rebuilding his city team. The club welcomed Gianluigi Donnaruma, Tijani Rejuna and Rayan Cherki, among other things, during the transfer period, and the manager made clear his intentions when discussing his future in August.

“I’m spending two more years. Maybe I’ll extend that another two years. So the problem is when I stop this year or two, or when I take a break in four years. But now I’m fine.”

“The team gave us a good vibe that started with the US (club) World Cup, and we created something. We saw what we missed last season.

“Training sessions, body language, details, how to protect those stupid things that arrive on time and find the team there (on running) behind them. And I think it’s more consistent than last season.”
