While there are not many must-see match-7 games in a season, it’s a situation where Reuben Amorim and Manchester United have found themselves. After losing to Brentford, pressure was put on again.
Sunderland is a visitor to Old Trafford on Saturday, marking the pair’s first Premier League meeting since the 2016/17 season. Former unit boss David Moys was then Sunderland manager, and the current Red Devils chief was eager to avoid defeating the same path as his predecessor by getting a bag. Ahead of Saturday’s game, Express Sports is predicting how Manchester United will line up…
Goalkeeper: Bayindir
Senne Lammens must be thinking about what he has to do to get to the side. The Belgian youth, who has never sniffed before, has arrived at the summer transfer window, doesn’t look as if Amorim still willing to roll the dice. So it appears that Altay Bayindir is most likely to hold his place between the sticks.
Defense: Show, Maguire, de ligt
The chance for United to win the Premier League title this season means that Amorim will be on display again this weekend, rather than dumping his three-back set-up. Lukeshaw as centre-back on the left had Matigis de Liguto working from the right side and had a decent effect. Renee Yoro or Harry Maguire is another decision Amorim needs to make, the latter most likely to nod.
Midfield: Amado, Casemiro, Fernandez, Dolgue
Again, there is no stylistic change from Amorim. In other words, it is expected that a double pivot of Bruno Fernandez and Casemiro will be unfolded. Patrick Dorgu was a relatively bright spark for the 20-time champion on the left flank, but Amado continues to operate as the opposing first-choice right wing.
Attacks: Mbeumo, Sesko, Cunha
One area of the pitch where Amorim cannot complain about players who are not suited to the system is in attack. All three, Brian Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesco and Matthew Cunya, were brought in this summer and spent about £200 million signing. Sesco scored a mark against Brentford over the weekend, but it’s time for the trio to start performing. Otherwise, Amorim has a question to answer again.
