Manchester United manager Reuben Amorim has increased scrutiny about his performance on the pitch, but the club’s overall direction has also been criticised.

Manchester United manager Reuben Amorim appears disappointed after the team's defeat in a Premier League match between Brentford and Manchester United at Brentford Community Stadium on September 27, 2025.

Rene Mullentine, the trustworthy ally of ISIS Alex Ferguson, said Manchester United is a broken club on and off the field. Meulensteen spent five years as coaching Ferguson’s first team – during the time when the club dominated the country and won the Champions League.

He set out in 2013 with Fergie – watching the Red Devils slip into more mediocre for the next 12 years.

And after the worst Premier League finish last season, the sign for more struggle under current boss Reuben Amorim is ominous. This was the third time he lost to Brentford in six matches, with his gaze on the bottom half.

United record goalscorer Wayne Rooney said earlier this week that he thought the football club had “no soul” and that he needed a new engine to run again.

Meulensteen offers a similarly awful rating, suggesting that the problem is far more widespreading the desperate struggle on the pitch.

Appearing in the Poor Accumber, there is no Tippy Tappie Football Podcast. “The clubs are broken in two ways. Everyone can see they’re broken on the pitch. They’re going to face the new manager and Brentford.

“Credit to Brentford. They have a game plan and they’ve been treated, so Manchester United have zero ability to turn it around to some degree. They’re broken there.

“The club is also broken off the field. I’m part of it, and the culture I built by Sir Alex is a great culture to participate in, it’s a family and everyone was there together.

“When Jim Ratcliffe came in, Jim Ratcliffe came in, who was completely stripped of the entire culture that had been built for 26 years, and was completely stripped of ownership and everything that happened in the background.”

Rooney spoke about Old Trafford culture as well, discussing the impact of wholesale changes and job losses since Ineos acquired stakes in the club.

“I don’t recognize the entire football club. I don’t see players fighting. I can’t see the characters. I don’t want to win,” he said on the Wayne Rooney podcast.

“I’m going to watch the game and go here again – I’m hoping the team will lose or pick up points.

“It’s not just about the outcome on the pitch. It’s all about the club that needs to be revised. Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos took on a real challenge.

“We see staff being fired after 20, 30 years, who are such important people to that football club. The soul has left the club. It needs a new engine, a new lease of life.
