Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe may be sighing at ease as New Sign’s Nick Urtemaid shows promising signs of filling the gap left by Alexander Isaac. Magpies have started fewer than they started until the 2025/26 season and are currently sitting in 15th place at the Premier League table.
Their only league victory so far has been a narrow 1-0 victory over the Wolves, with three draws and two losses marking the disappointing start of the campaign domestically. On top of their problems, he was injured by Joane Wissa before he could wear a Newcastle shirt, adding to his 2-1 defeat to Barcelona in the first Champions League match of the season. However, it appears to have a silver lining in the shape of the new striker Woltemade. The young players have already shown the Magpie’s promises ahead of time and are supported by their teammates and staff to reach the top level. Here, Express Football delves into some of the latest news from St. James Park.
Nick Ultemade shines in Newcastle training
Woltemade is undoubtedly under pressure to perform after becoming the most expensive signature in Newcastle history. He has already scored twice in the Premier League against the Wolves and Arsenal, and is trying to maintain this scoring streak for the Magpie.
Woltemade also gives a positive impression from the pitch. Newcastle staff are impressed with Germany’s aviation capabilities, according to reports from I-Paper.
One source believes that the 23-year-old coaching staff is “better than he thought,” and feels totally at the forefront of the offense. His cheerful attitude during the training session was also eye-catching.
With both the striker’s goals coming through the header, Newcastle supporters look forward to his potential from the set-piece situation. Magpie manager Howe praises the young man’s resilience after the switch to Newcastle and equally delights at the ridiculousness of his rank.
“We are very pleased to have Nick with us. He started very strongly in a difficult time for him, as he is plunging into direct action without training time with us.
“He’s doing really well. We’re really happy to be with him. The transfer fees are completely irrelevant.”
Jollington fights back against the “idiot” accusations
Woltemade continues to be impressed with Newcastle on and off the field, but teammate Joelinton is defending the star in public. He has faced some criticism since the Germans completed a £69 million switch to St James Park over the summer.
More recently, Bayern Munich board member Karl Heinz Rammenijz has accused the Premier League club of calling such a huge sum of money at the 23-year-old a “idiot.”
Jollington responds to these accusations and claims he is lucky enough to have him lead the line. “I’ve never seen it, so I don’t know what they said, but everyone has an opinion,” the 29-year-old said ahead of his Newcastle encounter with Union SG on Tuesday.
“We’re so happy to have Nick here. He’s an incredible player and an incredible talent. I hope he continues to score and does well for us.”
Jollington understands whether he will need time to find his foot in the northeast after arriving under Steve Bruce in 2019, and endures difficult spells. During his debut campaign, the Brazilian managed just four goals and four assists on 44 outings, but has flourished quite a bit since Eddie Hau’s appointment in 2021.
Jollington currently boasts 31 goals and 21 assists in 227 games. He hopes Woltemade can fill in the goal score gap left by Isak’s absence and make an impression of himself with the famous black and white stripes.
