Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta hopes to wait for the club’s 20+ year Premier League title this season, but thinks he’ll be fired if he doesn’t deliver
Mikel Arteta is said to be the title or bust by Robert Piers this season. Robert Piers believes that if he doesn’t win this Premier League, Arsenal will “undetectedly” look for a new head coach.
Arteta has reestablished Arsenal as a real title contender since taking over with the Emirates in late 2019, finishing second in the league for the past three years. The wait times for the North London Club title have been over 20 years, but fans are desperate for the club to win the Premier League for the first time since the 2003-04 campaign.
Arsenal spent more than £250 million this summer to ultimately beat the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City to the domestic crown. And while Piers, former Arsenal invincible, believes Arteta has a team to do it, he warns the Spaniard that he will almost certainly be replaced next year if he didn’t.

“In my opinion, if Arsenal doesn’t win the trophy this year, management will consider finding another coach,” Piers told Foot Mercato. “He was there for five years and unfortunately the title escaped him. What matters to the fans is the championship.
“The money was spent on the summer transfer window. He made certain requests that were met by the Arsenal Committee. If Arsenal can’t win the championship, I think there will definitely be a change on the bench.
“It’s not easy because we have Liverpool. Man City, Chelsea, who are out there, won’t be that late. But I think Arsenal will hold the cards and win the title to the players.”
Arsenal has the basis to compensate for the Liverpool champions, Liverpool, Liverpool, after the first five games of the new season, but reduced their lead at the summit to just two points after beating Newcastle on Sunday and coming from behind.
The result, coupled with a shocking defeat to Liverpool’s Crystal Palace 24 hours ago, allowed Arteta and Co to regain contact with the Arne Slot man who defeated them at the end of August.
Arsenal was able to temporarily snatch Liverpool at the top of the table on Saturday afternoon before the Champions made a trip to Chelsea later that night.
