Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Mason has issued a harsh warning to Manchester United against the appointment of Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner that Reuben Amorim should be fired immediately. Amorim finds himself under pressure after a brooding start to the campaign. The Red Devils manage only two wins. A chaotic encounter with Burnley and a meeting with Chelsea two weeks ago when visitors played with 10 men for the majority of the match.
The crushing loss to Brentford on Saturday has intensified the heat of United’s chief, with many reports claiming that Amorim could show the door. The manager remains in his post for now, but his future remains questionable for United to stumble against Sunderland this weekend. If Amorim departs, several candidates have been promoted for United’s hot seat, and Glasner is among those mentioned after his incredible work at the palace.
The Austrian, while being the only unbeaten side of the Premier League, has become a fan favorite following his coaching from the Eagles to the FA Cup glory.
Nevertheless, writing his Sky Sports column, Mason argues that Glasner is the wrong choice for United. “He’s a great manager,” the critic admitted.
“He’s not getting too up, he doesn’t fall too far. It’s very impressive. He brings the team together and they’re all very comfortable in their positions. Everyone knows how they work with the team.
“Suppose Reuben Amorim was the manager of the Palace. He would have half the chance of success.
“They have attributes to their team to play in that system, and for me that’s why I’m worried about Glasner going to Man United.
“He’s three The Back Man, and it’s proven to be a system that doesn’t suit Man United players. Glasner isn’t suited to Man United.
“Of course I’m sure he can adapt and it’s proven by how he handles players, but all the systems he uses are wrong for United. Amorim can tell you that.”
If Glassner is not in the running, other potential candidates for United positions include former England boss Gareth Southgate, former Barcelona chief Zabi and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraora.
Amorim is scheduled to deal with the press on Friday before his encounter with Sunderland.
