Rio Ferdinand has shown his support for Romell Lukaku, who shared a heartbreaking tribute to his late father on social media
Romelu Lukaku shared a heartbreaking tribute after the death of his 58-year-old father, Roger.
Lukaku switched to Old Trafford in 2017 after United outperformed Chelsea for service from Everton. He has since played as Inter Milan and Roma. He scored 15 goals in 44 appearances, including a return stint at Stamford Bridge.
Last season he found a permanent home with Napoli and helped them beat Inter to Scadet. The 32-year-old received a wave of support from the wider football community after sharing a heart-pounding tribute on Instagram.

Captioning an old photo of his father, Lukaku wrote:
“Life is never the same, protecting and leading me like no one else could have done.
“I’m not the same, the pain and tears are shedding a lot of time.
“But God gives me the power to restore myself. Merci pours out the publicity,” Roger Menama Lukaku. Vieux Roy (for his friends). Mondad. ”
Ian Wright, Rio Ferdinand, Juan Mata, Aaron Wang Bissaka, Joshua Zirque, Jeremy Doc, Clarence Siedorf, Thiago Silva and others all posted Red Heart emojis in the comments section. Lukaku also paid tribute to his father in his Instagram stories.
The Belgians uploaded several videos. One was from his father’s play day, and the other was celebrating the goal his dad scored for Anderlecht. Naples expressed sadness in an emotional statement.
The Italian Champions wrote: “President Aurelio de Laurentiz, Vice President Edoardo de Laurentiz, Coach Antonio Conte, sports director Giovanni Manna, executives, technical staff, team and the entire SSC Napoli join Romell Lukaku at this moment of sadness in the middle of his dear Father Roger.
Meanwhile, the Belgian Football Association has expanded its sympathy. The statement states: “Our thoughts and prayers are in the Lukaku family after the death of Roger Lukaku.”
Like Romell, Roger was center forward. He played for Belgium’s KV Mecheren and Ozende and represented the Zaire national team, now recognized as Dr. Congo.
Roger’s other son, Jordan, is also a professional soccer player. The 31-year-old left back, who is currently without a club, enjoyed her for six years with Lazio’s books between 2016 and 2022. He also featured eight times for the Belgian national team.
