Reuben Amorim has brought in several members of his backroom staff at Sports Club de Portugal, but Paul Shoals believes he might be better off making changes
Paul Scholes says Reuben Amorim appears isolated on the Manchester United touchline. Amorim brought in several backroom staff from Sports Club Deportugal following his appointment at United.
Among those numbers, Assistant Head Coach Carlos Fernandez and first-team coach Aderio Candido remain with him throughout his management journey. Another first team coach, Emmanuel Ferro, previously worked for Benfica with Fernandez during the day of Amorim play. Ruud Van Nistelrooy was eager to stay with United in every role available, but the Portuguese boss chose to prioritize his trusty team.
However, Shoals believes that Amorim will get from having a well-known assistant on his side, which also brings it to the negative.

“He looks lonely on the sidelines,” he said of Amorim on Good, Bad and the football podcast. “You even see the big managers, they have a bit of presence next to them. What did Amorim get next to him? I couldn’t tell you who his assistant was.
“But I think the thing he’s having now is that if he decides to bring someone out now, then, say it’s Rude van Nistellouis, or Michael Carrick, and everyone thinks he looks a little weaker with him.
“Even at Arsenal you have Albert (Stibverg) who has had a great experience. You’ve united with Mann Van Girl (and) and the Dutch team.
“You don’t know who the person behind him (Amorim) is? You don’t know who it is. No one knows. Jason (Jason) Tyndal’s name is Pep (Guardiola), Koro Tule and Pep Lijunders.
Amorim previously spoke about whether he would bring in someone who is familiar with the club, and whether he was managed by Van Nistellouis at the time ahead of United’s clash with Leicester City in February this year.
“No. The most important thing as a coach is the staff who understand the way you want to play, the standards you have,” explained Amorim.
“I like to work with the team that brought me here, and it’s clear that it’s important to understand my ideas and explain the same to the players.
“It was that decision, and I’m really comfortable and confident in knowing how to win, regardless of the club. Of course, we’re losing.
“Those moments require experienced people. But I don’t feel lost or lacking anything with the staff. We need to improve as a team.”
