Manchester United have announced that former Sunderland starlet Amado is set to return to the Premier League showdown at Old Trafford this weekend. The former Blackcats lender, who became a fan favorite during a stint at the stadium, played a pivotal role in Tony Mowbray’s dynamic side, reaching the championship playoff semi-finals.
Sunderland twice tried to lure Amad into the Stadium of Light, but the young forward had already established himself as a key part of United’s first team team after a successful spell with the Black Cat. Despite moving forward, Amad has maintained a strong bond with the Wearsiders, supporting the team at Regis Le Bris during the Championship playoff campaign, and even seen celebrating the promotion on social media.
Supporters were enthusiastically anticipating a reunion for the 23-year-old, but uncertainty arises when United missed out on a 3-1 defeat to Brentford due to the death of his family.
However, the former Sunderland player returned to training, with United issued a statement Wednesday afternoon saying, “After a brief absence due to the death of his family, Amado was welcomed by the group.
“The Ivorian winger was in the opening of six games of the season, but started five, but missed a trip to Brentford last weekend.
“Describing the situation before the loss, Reuben Amorim said, “Since someone from his family has passed away, we are giving Amado all the support. We understand that it is important for him to have his time. We are here for him.”
“Amado is currently working hard and regaining training for the weekend game. United wants an immediate response to the defeat when they welcomed their former club, Sunderland, to Old Trafford. Also, part of the main training group was once again Tyrel Malacia.
“Noussair Mazraoui will remain excluded until the international break in October, which begins next week, and like Amado, United will be able to choose again after visiting Brentford on a one-game suspension.”
Sunderland heads for Manchester and is looking to maintain an impressive start to the season with 11 points from six games.
