Ineos, co-owner of Manchester United, reportedly worried that Reuben Amorim might choose to resign before being fired to maintain his managerial reputation. The Portuguese manager has been enjoying a rewarding time at Old Trafford since taking over in November 2024, and the pressure on him is growing.
Despite leading United to the Europa League final last season, they lost to Bilbao’s Tottenham Hotspur. They also missed out on European spots and guaranteed they would mark the worst finish in the Premier League era, making them brooding in 16th place.
The 2025-26 season has not yet begun. Despite being able to beat Chelsea before Saturday’s match against Brentford, Amorim’s side suffered three league losses and was knocked out of the Carabao Cup at Grimsby Town in League 2.
In total, Amorim has only secured 19 wins from 49 matches and has serious doubts about his future. However, according to I paper, I-Esser Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos are ready to stand by their manager.
It is suggested that the British billionaire is keen to maintain his long-term vision for United and does not want to rush to another fire. However, within the club there are concerns that Ineos will not affect the situation. Some insiders are convinced that it is likely that he will leave his own agreement before being fired by Ratcliffe due to the relentless criticism Amorim faced after the loss.
United bosses reportedly view these as “knee joints” reactions, and are surprised by the increased scrutiny during their tenure. Despite ongoing speculation about Amorim’s future, it is understood that no successor has been identified for the Portuguese head coach.

Ratcliffe remains a Gareth Southgate fan after a successful spell with the England national team, but it is not believed he was approached by United on behalf of Amorim. United are active this Saturday when they welcome the high-flying Sunderland to Old Trafford.
