Dominique Solanke is poised to go under the knife for ankle surgery in a desperate attempt to solve the problems that have been worrisome Tottenham strikers since the summer. The 28-year-old has yet to feature from the start in his competitive fixtures this season after being injured while accidentally hitting the ball during a training session. Nevertheless, he appeared to be making progress after rejoining training with his Spurs teammates this month.
This initially appeared to alleviate the problem following an infusion administered into the ankles of England International during the international break in September. However, Solanke continues to experience discomfort in his legs and is forced to stop his training activities. Thomas Frank confirmed that the striker had reached a decision to undergo minor surgery prior to his clash with Bodeau/Grimt in Norway prior to the club’s Europa League.
“Dom has an ankle problem that has been bothering him for a while, so now we have decided to do some minor surgery,” he explained.
“It’s a small step, so that means he’s not ready for today. Of course, Leeds (this weekend) is out as well.
“There’s more news about the international post-resting time slots, but I don’t think it’ll be long.”
Solanke is expected to be on the sidelines for weeks rather than months if everything goes smoothly with his mild surgery.
Frank dismissed the notion that recent weeks have been wasted in trying to avoid procedures.
“I think you can see it in two ways. That’s a simple answer, but not too easy,” he said.
“If I had known I could have done the surgery a month ago, I would have probably done it.”
“For me, it’s always ‘what it is, we’re dealing with it now.’ We handled this situation in the best way, as in general, no one wants to have surgery.
The Spurs lacked strikers in the match against Bodeau/Grimt, improving Coro Muani’s dead legs in the summer, but not enough for the French to travel to Norway, Massies Tell was not included in the Champions League squad.
Academy alumni, Dane Scarlett leaves Richarson as the only natural striker to provide backup.
Christian Romero also remains in England. Frank will only describe it as a “precaution” following the centre-back’s resilient performance in a 1-1 draw with the Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday night.
