Jurgen Klopp is linked to his return to management despite claiming he will no longer be considered a coach – 16 months from the exit from Liverpool

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that he has no plans to return to management to avoid overlooking anything from his previous life as a coach.

Klopp, 58, left the Reds at the end of the 2023/24 season after a successful nine-year reign at Anfield, ending the club’s three-year drought to win the best flight title, winning the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

During his time at Merseyside, Klopp scored 299, helmed 108 of his 491 matches, accumulating a 60.9% victory rate. As for the victory, Klopp is the fourth-highest Liverpool manager, behind Kenny Dalglish, Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley.

After leaving the Reds, Klopp spent some time from the match after returning in January 2025 as head of global football at Red Bull, which owns Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig.

It’s been nine months since Klopp started working at Red Bull, and is almost 16 years old following his departure from Liverpool. But despite having a 23-year management career before that, Klopp doesn’t miss a bit more coaching.

When asked last season if he was glued to a TV watching a football game, Klopp said in an interview with Athletic.

“I didn’t know when the game started. I just went out.

“I played sports. We enjoy life, spend time with our grandchildren, it’s completely normal and I know I’ll work again. But I know I don’t want to work as a coach either.”

“That’s what I think,” Klopp revealed when asked to double down not coach everything again. “But you don’t know. I’m 58. If I start again at 65, everyone will say, ‘I told you I’d never do it again.’ Sorry, 100% (when I said it)!

Klopp was linked to a shocking move on Saudi Arabia’s professional league side, Al Ittihad after Manchester United legend Laurent Blanc fired just four games in the new season.

German is the biggest choice to advance the Al-Ittihad team, according to Saudi Arabia-based Ariyadiyah.com. The Jeddah-based club feels his high octane style fits the team.

Klopp is not planning to return to management, but despite backlash from former Club Mainz fans following an announcement earlier this year, he enjoys a new role in Red Bull.

“I knew that (coming),” Klopp said in a banner from negative receptions and Mainz fans and others. “I’m German. I know what German people think of Red Bull’s involvement in football. They love Red Bull. But are they in all departments? But no.

“The funny thing is, Germany was the only one where the response was like that. But that’s fine. It’s fine. Everyone can think of what they want.

“By the way, I don’t think people remember what I did for a particular club. The people in Mainz at the stadium were small children when I was there (7 years old as a player and coach from 1990-2001).

“I don’t expect anyone to like what they do. You have to do it for the right reasons. For the right reasons, in Liverpool, people are overly happy with what I do.”
