Man Wood’s attitude on Amorim’s dismissal after Southgate’s approval | Football | Sports

Reuben Amorim continues to enjoy the support of Manchester United’s hierarchy following his set-up with Brentford. The Portuguese boss wanted to secure a Premier League victory for the first time when faced with bees, but United endured another disappointing afternoon at GTECH Community Stadium.

Manchester Evening News argues that Amorim maintains the trust of Old Trafford decision makers and that his successor is not considered. United were forced to issue a statement last month confirming that Amorim’s position remains safe after the shocking Carabao Cup defeat in the town of Grimsby. The victory over Chelsea lifted spirits, but United failed to capitalize on that momentum over Brentford.

Amorim has only collected 34 points from the potential 99 in the Premier League.

Following Brentford’s defeat, Amorim admitted: “I know guys. We talk about this every time a team loses (a basic mistake). We need to work on a lot of things. And today my biggest concern is that I didn’t settle the game in the last third.

“We missed a lot of crosses. We’ve suffered a transitional goal that we know about in the week and are working on. That’s what we need to improve.”

When asked about United’s path to improvement, Amorim replied. “We are working on everything, and our complaints are that we are working on all of our goals, our goals for today, that is frustrating.

“We can do better with the ball. We can have more control. We can understand that momentum is not in our favor when decisions are not preferred by us.

“We can control the ball, we can calm the game down. That’s what I know that this team can do. But everything, the moment, the penalty, the foul before the first goal, all of these things oppose us.

“You need to have more personality to control the game, calm the game and play better. I’m sure the referee’s decision doesn’t suggest that it contributed to the final outcome.”

Reports say United claims they are in talks with former England boss Gareth Southgate.

And he is already given a green light by Luke Shaw with his shining support. In July 2024, he said: “To be honest, I don’t really understand criticism (that Southgate got it). I think he took us to the next level, just like the players, for us.

“It’s now another semi-final and we both love him as a player for me and us. I think he’s really good. He’s exactly what we need. He always puts the player first.

“For me, personally, I think there is a lot to be grateful for him because I have shown a lot of faith and trust in choosing me when I didn’t need him, so I am always grateful.

United are set to play Sunderland at Old Trafford ahead of the international break in October.
