Manchester United will face “big issues” about Marcus Rashford’s future next summer, according to football finance expert Stefan Borson. The forward, who remains on the Old Trafford contract for three years, joined Barcelona FC on an in-season loan in July after Reuben Amorim showed he was not part of his plan. The Spanish giants have the option to permanently protect Rashford for £303 million in 2026.
Following his impressive display since the international break in September, Barcelona is reportedly keen to sign the English star, priced at around £26 million. Bolson believes this creates difficulties for United as the Red Devils can’t control the situation.
He told Football Insider:
“Whatever he does, is he playing well, whether he’s mediocre, whether he’s patchy, you’ll arrive next summer and have one bidder at the table. The player says he wants to go to Barcelona.
“It’s a big problem for Manchester United because it’s very difficult to see where the benefits are. Without a change in manager, we’re not going to bring him back unless he’s very enthusiastic.
“So he’s not back. He’s almost certain, as Barcelona says he wants to go to Barcelona if he wants to sign him, so you’re negotiating with yourself.”
It’s only weeks after Rashford was punished by Barcelona after arriving late for a training session. He was expected to oppose Getafe earlier this month, but was dropped as a result of his poor timekeeping.
Hansi Flick reportedly revealed to Lashford that lateness was unacceptable, and offered the 27-year-old the equivalent sanctions previously imposed on Jules Kounde, Inaki Pena and Raphinha for violating the same regulations.
However, he has since contributed either a goal or an assist in each of his past five outings.
Rashford scored Barcelong’s first and second goals against Newcastle United earlier this month, but he provided one assist in four previous LA La Liga fixtures.
On Sunday, United lenders delivered a nod to the Barcelona levelers with Hansi Flick’s team coming from behind and Jules Kaunde delivered a nod to the Barcelona levelers as Robert Lewandowski scores a second-half winner to take down Real Sociedad.
