The Premier League has released an explanation as to why the Arsenal penalty was overturned in Newcastle on Sunday afternoon. Judge Jarred Gillett initially pointed to the scene after contacted by Nick Pope and Victor Gyorker went down the box. However, Gillett consulted the VAR Monitor and after a few minutes of deliberation, he reversed his decision to award a spot kick.
It was determined that the goalkeeper Pope had contact with the ball before he defeated the Swedish striker.
