Reuben Amorim’s job at Manchester United is reportedly under threat following the club’s latest Premier League defeat.
Reuben Amorim feels the heat after Manchester United suffered another Premier League defeat. After a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford last weekend, Amorim had the opportunity to secure his first consecutive league victory since arriving at United almost a year ago.
However, he was short again and was main sided with a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Brentford. United were behind in the early stages as the bees took a 2-0 lead.
However, it was clear that luck was not on United’s side when Bruno Fernandez did not convert the penalty following the controversial decision not to send Brentford’s Nathan Collins. The bees scored a third in the time of injury, handing Amorim the 17th league defeat in just 33 matches.

Asked if the United boss is certain he could turn it around following his defeat to Brentford, Amorim replied:
“When you lose, you go back to the same place and fight again for one victory that will help you build momentum. Guys, I’m always at work. If I win, I’m in a different state of mind. That’s normal.
He added:
“Sometimes we do perform very well and see teams that show improvements, and sometimes we don’t see improvements that give us confidence that Manchester United is coming back.”
Well, rumors about his future are escalating. The mirror is looking at the latest reports.
Man Utd creates a “three candidate list” to take over Amorim’s successor
According to Talksport, Gareth Southate is on the three candidate list for Manchester United and could replace Amorim, who is already in direct contact with Ir Jimratcliffe. United are reportedly likely to be held back to make their moves through November.
Amorim completes 12 months of responsibilities, which minimizes the compensation package. Ratcliffe reportedly reached out to Southgate in recent weeks to assess the feasibility of his intervention, which has been unemployed since resigning as England’s manager in July 2024.
Manchester United reportedly have made Crystal Palace bosses Oliver Glasner and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraora as potential alternatives to fire manager Eric Ten Hagg.
Former England manager Southgate previously linked to his role before leaving the national team, but his name resurfaced in the process of appointing Amorim, who could face the ultimate in four games.
Ratcliffe’s emotions are clear about Amorim
According to BBC Sport, Manchester United’s top brass, including Jim Ratcliffe ir, are still full behind Amorim. The report counters rumors that a candidate’s boss is preparing the list of candidates, claiming that he is directing the ship in the right direction in full support of the Portuguese manager.
Ratcliffe believes that what United co-owners recognize as the right team for progress and that they will only appreciate Amorim throughout the season. Insiders also make it clear that no alternatives are currently considered.
