Gabriel Magalhais got a final laugh after being told his actions were “embarrassing” during Arsenal’s final Gasp victory over Newcastle. The Gunners defender complained that Nick Woltemade’s opening goal for Newcastle should have been choked as the Germans carried two hands on their backs before passing David Raya.

The Brazilian centre-back fell dramatically on the pitch after a slight push from behind, complaining to referee Jarred Gillett after the goal was awarded. Former Newcastle striker Les Ferdinand said at halftime at Sky Sports:

“I think it looks like a push because all the players are suing it, but then when you look at it again, you’re like, ‘How did he get off for that?” ”

But the 27-year-old will get a final laugh – it was his 96-minute header from the corner that won it for the gunners at St. James Park. He also robbed the crowd at the celebration.

This victory was a big deal for the people of North London. He was equal only through the header of Mikel Merino in the 84th minute.

The victory at Newcastle lifts them two points ahead to champion Liverpool, who sits first with 15 points. The Reds lost to Crystal Palace in Selhurst Park on Saturday, 2-1 after conceding a 97th minute goal to former Arsenal striker Eddie Nketier.

At Newcastle, Gabriel went to his knees full-time after a big victory, but Gary Neville said in a commentary on Sky Sports: “It’s very big for Arsenal and big for Arteta.

“Liverpool loses, Arsenal wins in a fantastic way. They deserve it, they were a better football team. He made a really good submarine and started with a strong team. It gives them a lot of confidence.”

Returning Bukayosaka told Sky Sports: “Incredible. A slow winner – there’s nothing better in football. I’m so happy. When I’m on the bench, I can’t control and influence the game, but when there’s someone like this guy (Merino) – he’s a big threat.

“And obviously a big Gabriel. I have a lot of faith in my teammates, so I’m winning,” added former Newcastle player Merino.

“Backing here is always a big memory for me, a great place in my life. But I can help the team come in. And yeah, I’m not better off winning at the very end. Congratulations to all the boys.

“It’s great to see all the faces, old friends all the time. I had great memories here. I’ve only been here for a year, but it’s still a big part of my life.

“Yeah, to come here and get the winner, I had it again with the same goal I saw in Newcastle a few years ago. It’s magic.”
