Arsenal secured a dramatic final Gasp victory at Newcastle to move two points from the top of the Premier League table. The gunners believed they had scored a penalty when Nick Pope appeared to foul Victor Gyoker, but Val decided that the goalkeeper had just touched the ball. Leandro Trossard then missed the score a little and hit the post in close range shots.
Arsenal’s missed opportunity came back to annoy them when Nick Urtemaid scored from a short corner routine. However, Mikel Merino found the equalizer on the back post, heading towards the goal for six minutes from the time. Gabriel then scored the victory with a header from the corner in the 96th minute. Arsenal Player Rating vs Newcastle
David Raya – 6
I couldn’t do much about Ultemade’s goals beaten by a great header.
Julien wood – 8
He delivered a great cross for Eze and he was a good defender of Gordon early on. He had a big, headed opportunity saved by the Pope early in the second half, but overall he had a great game.
Christian Mosquera – 5
I’ve made a few errors, including misguided passes and touches. One of them led to a corner where Woltemade scored. His performance was probably his least impressive so far, so he left the field at halftime.
Gabriel Magalges – 7
We were fortunate that Var was not punished by Var for unnecessarily raising his arms to Woltemade following his goal. He was also fortunate to not admit a penalty later in the game. But everything was allowed when the Brazilians were able to find the back of the net with a slow header from the corner and secured the victory.
Riccardo calafiori – 6
He showed impressive pass and combination play, but after defeating Livramento during the transition, he won a yellow card.
Martin Zubimendi – 7
He sometimes led the midfield with Grace and delivered passes for Timber’s chances.
Declan Rice – 8
I posted an assist for a Trossard shot and got a hit on the post. Rice, often tasked with picking up the ball from the deep, helped in the transition. He also had to be vigilant about his defensive duties to prevent Jacob Murphy from scoring. He dominated the entire game and provided excellent performances.
Eberechi Eze – 8
I got a chance from the edge of the box, volleying to the bottom right and being saved by the Pope. Another attempt was directed directly at the England Keeper. Later, Torosad’s cross finds the former palace man again, but this time his volley sails through the bar.
Bukayosaka – 6
I managed to remove some shots before the 30 minute mark. Both coincided with the Pope. He struggled to make his mark in the game, as he would have hoped, and was eventually replaced in the second half.
Viktor Gyokeres – 6
There were several early opportunities, but both were comfortable saved and well blocked. I had the opportunity to strike when I went down the goal, but instead checked my backback and lost ownership. I missed the perfect opportunity to equalize around 81 minutes and sent a shot over the bar.
Leandro Trossard – 6
Hit posts in important first half situations from a potentially tight angle. At least it should have tested the Pope. However, he had a decent game overall and offered some quality passes in the final third.
Alternatives
William Saliba – 6
The French brought even more solidity and calm in their defense after they came.
Mikel Merino – 7
It rose to the highest to connect with the rice cross and secure an equalizer.
Gabriel Martinelli – n/a
It didn’t have much of an impact after his introduction.
Myles Lewis -Skelly -n/a
After I came, I couldn’t make a big impact.
Martin Odegaard – 7
We delivered a great late pass to Miles Lewis Skelly, who should have done better. Despite his short time on the pitch, he made a significant contribution to corners where his target was delayed.
