Joe Cole and Peter Crouch “Write on the Wall” Graham Potter in the “Toxic” West Ham United environment

Joe Cole and Peter Crouch explained that there is an air of inevitability surrounding the firing of Graham Potter as West Ham United manager.

“The timing is unusual two days before the game, but there was a writing on Graham’s wall,” Cole said on TNT Sports’ live coverage.

“Unfortunately, it was outcome-driven and losing three games at home in the way London derby against Tottenham and Chelsea was not enough.

“I don’t think he’s got enough support, especially in this transfer window. He had a team until the end of the season, and they (West Ham) said, “Yes.

“But do you think they were just dizzarded and thought maybe he (the right guy to manage the team)? And in the end it was going the wrong direction, so I understand why the club did it.

“The conversation is about rebuilding, changing the style of play, bringing players you want to bring in, and I think it never happened.

“So this season has been extremely difficult for him. I hope he is the best in the future.

Crouch reiterates Cole’s sentiment and believes fans’ complaints about how the club operates will continue to be a major issue.

“The way the club operates has been a clear problem since the start of the season. It was toxic. The fans were turning around. I don’t think there’s a real way for him. It’s clear that the club lined up someone.

“Unfortunately, it was very clear that there was a writing on Graham’s wall.”

There have been reports that former Wolverhampton Wanderers, Tottenham Hotspur and Boss Nuno Espirito Santo from the Forest of Nottingham are set to replace Potter.

The Portuguese could be placed in time for a match at Hildickinson Stadium, and the TNT Sports duo believes the 51-year-old will be the perfect fit.

“Nuno is the more defensive type of manager and West Ham is leaking goals so he can improve them there and their set pieces need to be better, so I’m hoping Nuno will come and get a job,” Cole added.

“That fits perfectly, but I think West Ham fans need Nuno to have the energy and be a lifter, which is what the club needs at the moment.

“When you see people leaving 30 or 40 minutes against the Spurs or Chelsea, that’s not good.

“They want people to move them, move their fans and have the young people believe.”

Crouch praised Santo’s work at Forest after switching the club from a relegated butler to a European qualifier, but says the poor relationship between the fans and the board proves to be harmful.

“The work he did (at Forest) was great. He knows he has the money to spend there and he may not get the same support in West Ham.

“It’s not just Graham Potter and the team, it’s just like the board. So, if they give them support, what he accomplished in Nottingham Forest was great in a short amount of time.”
