Graham Potter admits that the results at West Ham United were not sufficient as he looked back on his nine months in charge of the club. Potter replaced Julen Lopetegui on a two-and-a-half-year deal in January, but was released from duties on Saturday morning after a poor start to the season.

Hammer has only won one Premier League this season. During last weekend’s defeat to Crystal Palace, supporters made emotion known. Potter plundered him in a statement via the League Managers Association on Saturday afternoon, saying, “I am extremely disappointed to leave the West Ham United Football Club.

“But I fully acknowledge that the outcome has not been sufficient up until now.

“First, I would like to thank the board for providing the opportunity to manage the team over the past eight months.

“It was an honor and privilege to manage such a historic club, which holds such a strong value in the tradition of football and passion for the game.

“I would like to thank all the staff at the club for being so welcoming to me, and to the fans who were so supportive during my time and, in the end, their continued efforts, and sometimes difficult journeys.

“There’s nothing else in the club except for the good fortune of the future. Thank you for now. Come on Irons. GPX.”

The hammer moved quickly to replace Potter, and Nuno was confirmed on Saturday before 3pm. The former Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolf manager have signed a three-year contract and will be responsible for his side game against Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday night.

“I’m extremely pleased to be here and very proud to represent West Ham United,” he said.

“My goal is to work hard to get the best from the team and ensure we are as competitive as possible.

“Work has already begun and I look forward to the challenges that go on.”
