Former Arsenal Academy player Billy Vigal died tragically in the Istim League Premier Division on Saturday after being injured during the Chichester City match against Wingate and Finchley match.
Billy Vigar’s tragic death called for the FA to take action immediately and make changes to the pitch environment. The former Arsenal young man died Thursday after suffering a “severe” brain injury during a recent match against Chichester City.
Vigal was taken to hospital and placed in a coma state that was guided before undergoing surgery on Tuesday. The injury suffered by the striker came during a match at Wingate and Finchley on Saturday, when they believed there would be a collision with a concrete wall as they tried to play the ball.
Mark White, owner and manager of Dorking Wanderers, labeled the surroundings of many pitches in the football pyramid as dangerous and called for action. “All clubs need @FA to direct an immediate investigation into pitch surround,” he said in X.
“Many are dangerous, and given their proximity to the pitch, players must always be careful. But there are some who simply don’t move and are fatal. These need to be removed immediately.”

Chichester paid tribute to the players when he announced his death. “After suffering serious brain damage last Saturday, Billy Vigal was placed in a induced coma state,” the statement said.
“On Tuesday he needed surgery to help with his potential recovery.
“The answer to the original update shows how much thought and loved Billy is within the sport. His family is devastated by how this happened while playing the sport he loved.”
Chichester added:
Arsenal was part of the under-21 set-up for the Gunners Under-21S last year, moving to Hastings United on a free transfer last year, sharing a statement expressing their devastation. They wrote:
“All our thoughts are at this point with his family and his loved ones. Rest in peace, Billy.”
The Football Association also confirmed his death in a social media post. “It’s devastated to hear that Billy Vigal has passed away. I express my sincere sadness to his family, friends, loved ones and everyone at Chichester City FC during this incredibly difficult time.”
