Arsenal has expressed “devastation” in the news of the tragic death of former star Billy Vigar. The 21-year-old got caught up in a shocking incident over the weekend after he crashed into a hard pitch-side surface while playing for Chichester City.
He was treated by an ambulance team and was then rushed to the hospital for further treatment via helicopters. Viga was placed in the induced coma state and undergoes surgery. Unfortunately, however, he failed to recover and succumbed to heartbreak with his injuries.
A statement from Chichester on Thursday said, “It is extremely saddened that the Chichester City Football Club must confirm Billy Vigal’s passage. Below is a statement from his family. We demand that the privacy of his family be respected during this most difficult time.”
A further statement from Vigar’s family stated, “After suffering a serious brain injury last Saturday, Billy Vigar was placed in a induced coma state. On Tuesday, he needed surgery to help with his potential recovery.
“The answer to the original update shows how much thought and loved Billy is within the sport. His family is devastated by how this happened while playing the sport he loved.”
Arsenal has since provided an inspiring homage to Hale End Academy alumni. A message from the North London side said: “Everyone at Arsenal is ravaged by the shocking news that former academy alumni Billy Vigal has passed away.
“All our thoughts are at this point with his family and his loved ones. Rest in peace, Billy.”
Former Arsenal midfielder Charlie Patino also had a simple message. He said: “Look in peace, Billy.”
Arsenal was not the only one to express their sadness. The Football Association (FA) also responded to the devastating death of a talented footballer.
Their statement said, “It is devastated to hear that Billy Vigal has passed away. I express my sincere sadness to his family, friends, loved ones and everyone at Chichester City FC during this incredibly difficult time.”
Many Premier League teams also provided messages of support. “The thoughts of all Brighton and Hove Albion paid tribute to the thoughts of Billy’s family, friends and everyone in Chichester City during this tragic time. “Rest in peace, Billy.”
Fulham also said, “This is extremely devastating news. I will send love and strength to Billy’s friends and family, as well as everyone in Chichester City. Please rest in peace.”
Chichester was scheduled to play Lewis in the league this weekend. The game was postponed ahead of a sad confirmation of Vigar’s death.
