Man Utd to leave 3 stars for free to fund Carlos Valleva’s transfer | Football | Sports

Manchester United are reportedly ready to leave three of Eric Ten Hag’s expensive transfer flops in a free transfer as they try to kickstart the Reuben Amorim era. Amorim took over from Ten Hag in 2024 and inherited a team packed with low-performing, expensive stars. This marks the unfortunate first year for Amorim, with only nine wins from 32 Premier League matches.

During the summer window, Amorim was able to offload some famous players, and Alejandro Garnacho and Antony left forever. Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, Andre Onana and Jadon Sancho are all on loan and will not return to Old Trafford next year.

According to Sun, more players will show their doors in 2026 and free up funds for important midfield signatures. United have invested heavily in the reinforcements attack, bringing in Mashus Kuña, Brian Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesco for a total fee of over £2 million.

However, this meant that other areas, especially midfield, were ignored. There was a strong call for the new central midfielder to help implement Amorim’s strict 3-4-2-1 system.

United were strongly associated with Brighton midfielder Carlos Valleva, but despite preliminary debates, the deal was deemed too expensive. Brighton will value Cameroon International at £115 million, and he could be the headline of the windows next summer.

United’s chief is ready to allow a series of famous departures to reduce wage bills ahead of another range of spending in the transfer market. Casemiro, 33, who is set to become a free agent at the end of this season, is expected to be on the list of people leaving.

Despite being consistent in both Ten Hag and Amorim, the Brazilians’ performances were inconsistent. After an impressive debut season, he struggled to maintain that level of shape.

His limitations were highlighted by the costly red cards in his recent victory over Chelsea.

Casemiro was signed by Real Madrid for £700 million in 2022 and is one of the club’s highest earners. United have the option to extend another annual contract, but it appears that he is increasingly likely to continue his free transfer.

Signed for £73 million in the same summer as Casemiro, Sancho has been proven to be an even more expensive mistake by previous management. He had not played United league matches for more than two years and spent much of that time on loan.

Currently he is about to revive his career at Aston Villa, but he will become a free agent next July. It’s unlikely that United will activate the 12-month option on his contract.

Tyrell Malacia was almost certain to leave, and was the only member of Amorim’s “bomb squad” to not secure a summer exit.

The left back, the cool £13 million first signature with 10 hugs, took a rough ride with injuries. He seemed to be planning to leave for his latest transfer period, but his move to Türkiye fell.

Like Casemiro and Sancho, he can leave for free next year. However, one player who appears to be more likely to remain at United is former skipper Harry Maguire.

The England ace became the world’s most expensive defender when he joined from Leicester in 2019. Despite losing his favor under 10 hugs, he has the support of the current Gaffer.

United activated a contract extension earlier this year, keeping him on board this season and now hopes to secure him in a longer deal – reduced.
