Former Arsenal star Billy Vigal sadly died after a terrifying brain injury he suffered during the match. The 21-year-old was caught up in a horrifying incident over the weekend while the current club Chichester City was taking action.

He crashed into the hard pitch side surface midway through the match against Wingate & Finchley. Vigar was treated on the pitch by the ambulance crew, and then he was rushed to the hospital via a helicopter, and the entire game was eventually abandoned.

A statement from the city of Chichester immediately after the accident read: “Billie suffers a serious brain injury and is currently in a coma induced in intensive care with the best possible treatment. It’s too early to say what the outcome will be.

They followed the statement in a post titled “Love from the whole CCFC Family Billy.”

A further statement from Chichester City said: “After suffering a serious brain injury last Saturday, Billy Bigger has now become a induced coma.

“On Tuesday he needed surgery to help with his chances of recovery. This helped, but the injury turned out to be too much for him and passed away on the morning of Thursday (25th). Answers to the original update show how much Billy is thought up and loved within the sport.

Chichester’s next game against Lewis has already been postponed, but their next game is scheduled for Cheshunt on Tuesday, September 30th.

Vigar is a graduate of Arsenal’s Hale End Academy and regularly featured on the Gunners under 18 and under 21 sides. He left the club in the summer of 2024.

The North London side was one of those offering their own ideas with an emotional message. “Wanting a quick recovery, Billy. Everyone at Arsenal sends love and support to Billy and his loved ones during this difficult time.”

Vigar has represented Hastings and the Eastbourne Borough in his career, joining Chichester in the windows of recent summers. His accident involved former Bus City man Alex Fletcher in a similar incident.

He was among those who provided his support to Vigal. Fletcher wrote: “My heart reads and reads this terrible news. All love, strength and greatest wishes will heal the Vigal family in time. You have this Billy.”
