Huko Ekitike shared his regret for his actions after receiving his second yellow card over Southampton at Liverpool’s Carabao Cup. The French forward scored a decisive goal against the championship team, earning a 2-1 victory at Anfield. However, he complicated the complex issues by taking off his shirt to celebrate and proudly holding his top for Liverpool supporters to see.
He had already received the opposite reservation, so he took off his top and was shown a red card. Ekitique will be suspended this Saturday for an away trip to Liverpool’s away crystal Palace in the Premier League. Despite being a man, the Reds were able to retain their position and secure victory over the saints. After the match, Ekitike quickly admitted his error and offered an apology.
In his Instagram Story post, he said:
“I apologize to all the Red Family. I would like to thank my fans for always supporting us and my teammates for ensuring the victory. #Reds.” Arne Slot Post-Match said:
“You need to control your emotions. If you play as No. 9, the defender can do almost everything he wants and it’s best for a free kick to control your emotions when you pull or push your shirt.
“You can show emotion, but if it leads to a yellow or red card, it’s stupid. If I had scored a goal like this, I would have turned around and said to Federico Chiesa. Yeah, yeah, unnecessary, wise, stupid.”
Andy Robertson, who captained the Reds against the Saints, advised the young French to learn from his mistakes. Speaking to Sky Sports, Scott said:
“But he clearly forgets that he was booked. His first one is stupidity, kicking the ball, we know the rules around it.
“It’s stupid from his part, but he’s only young and he learns from it. I’m happy he scored, but it’s a little harder to lose to 10 men in the last 10 minutes.
It proved to be a nightmare moment for Ekitique. His strike against the Saints proved essential to the Reds, scoring his fifth goal in eight appearances.
The reality he stands by as Liverpool heads to Selhurst Park irritates Slots. The Reds’ manager could start £125 million, signing Alexander Isaac, who scored the club’s maiden goal against Southampton from the start despite his careful attempts to manage Swedish fitness.
