He enjoys a perfect start at Liverpool, but £79 million man Hugo Ekichike made a big mistake with the Reds in his League Cup victory over Southampton.
Andrew Robertson warned the “silly” Hugo Ekitice that he must learn soon after his red card almost cost Liverpool a League Cup location. The French have enjoyed an extraordinary start to life at Anfield since their £79 million travelled from Eintrachat Frankfurs this summer.
Arne Slot started the Frenchman on the Reds’ bench, winning 2-1 over Southampton in the third round of the League Cup. Alexander Isaac scored the Reds’ first goal on a stroke at halftime, but the Frenchman scored a victory goal and got off the bench after Shea Charles equalised in the 76th minute.
That was another big goal for Ekitique, but the striker almost dismantled his hard work by removing his shirt in celebration. He had forgotten that he had already been booked early in the game because he kicked the ball in frustration.

Teammate and summer mate Jeremy Frimont was gagged with rage as he saw Ekitique remove his top. He wasn’t as angry as slots. He could see him calm down with a deep breath before ignoring Ekichike as he shuffled the pitch.
In a post-match interview, Robertson had some harsh words for the striker. The striker has five goals and one assist in his first eight matches in all of the Reds’ tournaments. Scott said: “If he does it again, I would be very surprised.
“Scoring a goal is always emotional and you always get that feeling, but he clearly forgets that he was booked.
“His first is stupidity, he kicks the ball. We know the rules around it.
“It’s stupid from his part, but he’s only young and he learns from it. I’m happy he scored, but it’s a little harder to lose to 10 men in the last 10 minutes.
Ekitique’s red card means that it will be stopped due to a clash at Crystal Palace in Liverpool’s next Premier League. He makes a big mistake against the Eagles. The Eagles are the only team in the division that still enjoys an unbeaten start to their new Premier League campaign.
That could mean slots will be forced to launch ISAK for the first time in the Premier League. Sweden’s first half goal was Merseysider’s first strike since the controversial switch from Newcastle United.
Slot was in charge of the minutes of the Ex-Real Sociedad Forward.
Minutes after scoring for Liverpool, Slot left him behind to manage his minutes. He may have no choice but to start Isaac at Selhurst Park, where Ekitique has become unavailable as a result of his celebration.
