EFL is in the Blackburn Rovers vs Ipswich Town Replay Verdict – “What else can I do?”

The English Football League was said in the most unbiased way to determine the outcome of what should happen following the extension of Blackburn Rover vs Ipswich Town

The Groundman attempts to release water from the waterlogged pitch at Ewood Park after play was stopped due to heavy rain during a Sky Betting Championship match between Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town.
Blackburn vs Ipswich stopped in 10 minutes to go on Saturday

Talksport Pundits Ally McCoist and Jeff Stelling believe that the Blackburn Rovers championship clash with Ipswichtown should be played despite the “unfortunate” circumstances that led to the postponement this weekend.

The EFL is set to determine the outcome of Saturday’s match. This was abandoned by referee Stephen Martin in the 80 minutes due to a heavy rain. Valerian Ismael’s side had risen 1-0 in the final minutes of the collision.

Todd Cantwell gave the Rovers the lead from a penalty spot in the 59th minute, with Ipswich now in the 10th after Jacob Greaves was shown a red card in the 49th minute.

Neither Rover nor Ipswich spoke to the media after the match, trying to avoid putting potential EFL decisions in jeopardy.

“The decision has been agreed with both managers. The board will consider what actions should be taken as a result of a waiver in line with EFL regulations.”

EFL Regulation 34.2 states: “A league match that falls within 90 minutes for any reason is ordered to be counted as a completed fixture or be ordered to be played, fully or in part, in any terms and conditions determined by the Board at its absolute discretion.”

There is little precedent from the EFL as to what happens with regard to the outcome of the game, but Cantwell’s goal has been removed from the record, while Greaves is given one game of suspension.

Speaking at Monday’s breakfast show, McCoist thinks that it is impossible to play just the last 10 minutes of the game, and that “the only logical solution” will play the game completely.

Jacob Greaves of Ipswichtown has a red card displayed by referee Stephen Martin in his challenge at Ohashi Yushima.

“That’s not possible,” McCoist said as he discussed the possibility of playing the final 10 minutes of the game. “You have to make the most of a situation that is almost impossible.

“I saw the highlights, I saw the penalty for Todd Cantwell, I saw the send-off, I think I have to play my opinion, the match.

“I mean, that’s a shame that’s really crying for Blackburn, but what else can you do? You can’t play the last 10 minutes and say, ‘You’re only 10 people’ because things change.

“You don’t get the same player, you get injured and the player is stopped. That’s not ideal, but I think you need to play the game again.”

“I agree, it would be a real shame if you were Blackburn,” Stelling added. “But if you play the last 10 minutes, you can’t claim that the same 10 Ipswich players will come out and the same XI Blackburn players will come out,” he said.
