The poor start to Aston Villa’s season could be about to get worse from the worse with rumors that Unai Emery is about to quit the club. Emery has been a revelation since his arrival at Villa Park, and has been relegated to Champions League quarter last season.
However, after five games in the current season, life at the villa is not so rosy for Emery, and the club ends up losing Monki, the president of the soccer business. That’s after a difficult summer for Villa, who struggled to complete the business until the second half of the transfer period.
That uncertainty translated into on-field performance, with Villa not winning from the opening of this season’s five games. But now it is claimed that Emery is looking at his options away from the former European champion.
A report by Gianluca di Marzio suggests that Emery was considering his future during his previous international break. It has been suggested that Emery and Monki suffered from some differences, and the former is considering moving away from the Premier League side.
The goal post appears to have changed somewhat after Monchi’s departure, where Real Sociedad’s sports director Roberto Olabe will take the lead instead. Olabe has a history with Emery. The pair work together in Laliga costume Sevilla.
BBC Sports claims that Emery was involved in the decision to hire Olabe as a Mochi alternative, and the 57-year-old enjoyed an impressive stint with the LA Real. However, there is a suggestion that villa issues may grow beyond the hierarchical staff. Simon Jordan told Talksport:
“They don’t have the bandwidth to the governance of the game and therefore they can’t go to the toes economically. We cannot suggest that decline is directly related to the Monki.
“Emery brings his man in and the communication chain between him and the owner is through the football director he is involved. All clubs buy players who do not athletic. He is clearly a football director.
