Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva were remembered in special respect at the Baron de Or Ceremony in Paris, attended by Liverpool star widow Root Cardoso
The life and career of former Liverpool player Diogo Jota was honored with a heartfelt tribute at the Baron de Or’s Ceremony on Monday night, with his widow Root Cardoso attending the theater du Chatelette in Paris.
Tragically, on July 3rd, Jota and his brother Andre Silva died in a car accident while traveling through the Zamora region of northern Spain. Since then, there has been an overwhelming pour in love for the two football players and support for their family and former colleagues.
The latest act of memory took place at the Barondoor Awards ceremony, where touching tributes and messages were delivered to the Liverpool Star’s family.

“This summer, our soccer family was shocked when we learned of Diogo Jota’s death, who lost his life along with his younger brother Andre Silva,” host Kate Scott said.
Dutch legend Rude Garritt added: “Jota was a fan favorite who gave everything to his club and his country and loved by his teammates and supporters. Together, let’s remember them.”
The video reels were then on display, featuring highlights of the best moments of the two Portuguese stars’ careers, as well as tributes paid on the field in the months since their death.
Liverpool stars Virgil van Dick and Alison Becker looked emotional in praise of the rest of the crowd, as did Paris Saint-Germain and Portuguese star Jois Neves.
Following the event, Scott said:
Just 11 days before his heartbreaking death, Cardoso, who tied the knot with his long-term partner Jota, was seen arriving at the venue alongside Liverpool’s troops.
This included Reds head coach Arneslot, who was taking part in the 2025 Best Men’s Coach Johan Cruyfe Trophy, and the coaching team. Liverpool sports director Richard Hughes was also there, as was Van Dick and Allison.
The skipper took 28th place in the Ballon d’Or Top 30, announced hours before the ceremony, but the goalkeeper was nominated for the Yasin Trophy for the best men’s goalkeeper of 2025.
Mohamed Sarah still won the main prize and had a top 10 sets to be shown live during the ceremony. According to Egyptian news outlet Winwin, Sarah made a mistake in the ceremony without explaining it before.
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Alistair also confirmed his absence from the event for “personal reasons.”
