But Vinicius Jr. emphasizes that he hardly supports his bold claims made after last year’s ceremony in Paris. “I’ll do it ten times as much as I want,” the player posted to X. “I’m not ready.”
However, he scored just 22 goals in 58 appearances in all competitions last season. This was just two of the previous campaigns, but its goalscoring form occurred despite 19 fewer matches.
Madrid boycotted theatre du Chatellette last year after learning that players would not receive the award. The team trained together on the Valdevevas on the Monday before the ceremony began.
Not only are Bellingham, Mbappe and Vinicius Jr competing in the main men’s awards, Dean Huijsen is a nominee for Kopa Trophy, awarded to the world’s best under 21 players, while Thibaut Courtois appears in the best goalkeeper Yashin Trophy.
However, Madrid is playing a La Liga match against Levante on Tuesday night, three days after beating Espanyol. These are two out of five matches within two weeks.
They will be playing Atletico Madrid this weekend with a 2-1 victory over Marseille in the Champions League last Tuesday before visiting Kazakhstan’s Kairat next Tuesday evening.
