Manchester United gathered around Amado following a wave of online abuse over the weekend. The young winger was forced to delete all of his Instagram posts after Red Devils fans had trouble with his decision to share a photo of him with Alejandro Garnacho. Amado posted a picture of himself holding a Ghanacho Chelsea shirt, and his former teammate lifted up his United jersey. The friendly exchange came after United’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday.
This marked his first return to the old stomping ground since his £40 million summer transfer, despite Robert Sanchez not making it to the pitch due to early firing for Chelsea. Amad shares close ties with the Argentina International, which is also managed by the same institution, but their social media interactions have not worked well with some of their supporters. The 23-year-old faces a barrage of abuse from disgruntled fans and cleanly wipes all but one X post.
According to the Sun, United officials reached out to him to provide support on Monday. Despite the backlash, it is understood that Amado is doing well. After playing 90 minutes with Chelsea, he is trying to keep his spot when he joined Brentford in the league this Saturday.
United are spending a week preparing for their journey to West London, which had already been knocked out of the Carabao Cup. Most Premier League teams compete in the third round of competitions mid-week, but United were defeated in the second round in August by a penalty by Grimsbytown.
Amad has played in all six games so far this season, starting all but one game. So far, he has contributed only one tough assist, sitting 11th in the Premier League, following his second campaign victory over the weekend.
Garnacho left United under the clouds in the summer after dropping out with Amorim in the final few games of last season. The 21-year-old was told he had no future in the club and was part of the “bomb squad” and forced to train with fellow exiles Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia.
Garnacho has previously played two short alternatives for Chelsea against Brentford and Bayern Munich, and has remained on the bench at Old Trafford following Sanchez’s early red card.
