Jamie Carrager admitted that Arsenal plays frequently among himself, comparing it to some of the Liverpool team – never won a title in the end
Jamie Carrager claims that Arsenal is beginning to remind us of the Liverpool team that he played under Rafa Benitez and Gerald Holier. Critics recall how they “put the handbrake” and believe that Mikel Arteta does the same.
The Gunners have secured a slow point against Manchester City courtesy of Gabriel Martinelli’s downtime strike. Pep Guardiola’s team took an early lead through Ehring Haaland and sat for the rest of the game, missing out on victory just a few minutes.
But it was another contest where Arsenal saw them fail to count their control. Carragher claimed “they’ve wasted 45 minutes,” accusing Arteta of thinking too much about how to fight the opposition rather than making the most of what he has.
Arsenal has once again invested heavily in the transfer market and currently has a team that boasts Ebelech Eze, Noni Madueke, Martin Zubimendi and Victor Gyoker. Despite the richness available, Carragher says Arteta’s approach can be expensive.
He said on Sky Sports:

“We were really close, we were the first team, but we never won the Premier League. I might have always been handbrakes in certain games under Gerald Holier and Rafa Benitez.
“It’s just a repetition pattern, a post-season season and if you’re a Mikel Arteta or an Arsenal supporter, they’re a great team and I hope you don’t have to pay for you at the end of the season.”
Arteta was called for a similar failure after his defeat at Anfield a few weeks ago. This led the Reds to win the winner in the final 10 minutes. Arsenal had the opportunity to push their profits into the home, but ultimately failed. Gary Neville confessed that North Londoners “have the courage to believe they can win at this point without taking that risk in their game.”
Sunday’s deadlock at Etihad means gunners are five points behind Liverpool after just five games. After finishing second in the top flights of the past three years, the pressure is growing to supply silverware.
