Casemiro saw red in the Manchester United clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford on Saturday and picked up the second yellow card for a rash challenge at Andrei Santos.
The Premier League reveals the reasons behind Casemiro’s firing during Manchester United’s match against Chelsea. Casemiro was already booked before netting United’s second goal.
However, as the first half was drawn into the vicinity, his challenge to Andrei Santos near the half-hearted line led to his sending out. In the aftermath of United’s disappointment in the expulsion of the Brazilian midfielder, the Premier League shed light on their decision.
Posting on X on the Premier League Match Center’s social media account, they said: “The referee issued a second yellow card to Casemiro for a retention attack that stopped a promising attack. There was no VAR’s involvement in the second yellow card, following the VAR protocol.”

United cannot appeal the decision as the sendout was due to a second bookable crime. In other words, Casemiro must accept his punishment. It was his fourth red card for the club.
Fortunately, for United, Casemiro has not taken action for a long time. This is because the second yellow card brings one game of suspension.
This means United will not have a Brazilian for their trip to Brentford for the early Premier League kickoff next weekend Saturday. Casemiro then returns to United’s plans the following weekend, facing AFC Sunderland on October 4th.
Early in the match, Chelsea found themselves a man when goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was sent out to defeat Brian Mbeumo outside The Box. The stopper was presented with a straight red card, but only offers a one-match suspension as a decision was made to deny opportunities to score the target.
His ban comes into effect mid-week when Chelsea heads to Lincoln City for a Carabao Cup collision. This means that ultimately he will not have Premier League punishment.
