Liverpool beat Everton 2-1 in the Merseyside Derby on Saturday, with Arneslot already confirming that five players will not feature in the Carabao Cup clash with Southampton
Arne Slot was selected to five players on Tuesday who are guaranteed not to feature Liverpool in the third round tie of the Carabao Cup against Southampton. The Reds’ head coach was speaking after leading Everton to a 2-1 victory in the Premier League.
Slots sounded the change with four players who introduced the lineup that launched a 3-2 thrilling 3-2 victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Conor Bradley, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekichike and Alexis Mac Alistair all stopped by the bench by Andy Robertson, Jeremy Flippon, Florian Wiltz and Alexander Isaac.
Ryan Gravenburch opened up a goal for Liverpool to achieve his second goal for the Reds’ campaign. Hugo Ekitike was also on the score sheet on his third strike of the season before regaining the goal for Anfield’s Toffees.

Another mid-fixture for Liverpool’s upcoming one, Slot has confirmed that the five players who started the victory at Everton will not face Southampton at Anfield.
“That’s why we and our European teams need a team like this, and why you play so many games,” Slot told reporters on Saturday (via Liverpool Echo).
“That’s not an excuse. We accept that. There were some issues with Alexander Isaac not training for four months.
“The good thing is that you have the option to spin throughout the week, and the three 90-minute plays are Virgil (Van Dyke), Ibu (Ibrahima (Conate), Missouri (Mohamed Sara), Ryan (Greignbellch), Dom (Dominik Zoboschlei), what appears at this level.
“I can tell you I won’t see them on Tuesday.”
Slots continued to explain where Liverpool thinks they can make improvements despite having five consecutive Premier League wins this season and claiming a sixth win in all competitions.
“We managed the game really well, but we didn’t manage some moments really well,” Slot said. “I said this before the game. There are so many things I love, but you need to understand that moments can change momentum.
“This is what happened to Bournemouth, Newcastle and Atletico. We need to realize that no matter how well you play, you can change the game.
“This is where we can improve. But we generally don’t think we had a chance after 2-1. But if you’re just 2-1, it always feels a little difficult.
“These are really good players, but we played in a variety of set-ups. They’re really good moments for the majority of the game.”
