Reuben Amorim discusses Ir Jim Ratcliffe with Man UTD boss under pressure | Football | Sports

Reuben Amorim joked that Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe presented him with a new contract offer when he visited the club’s training facility on Thursday. The manager held a standard meeting with Ratcliffe in Carrington before the Premier League collided with Chelsea on Saturday. Ratcliffe continues to support Amorim’s tenure at United, declaring in March that the Portuguese boss is offering a “great job.”

Amorim secured just eight wins in 31 league matches. Ratcliffe provided Amorim with assurance that his role was safe and that his United contract would run until the summer of 2027. Amorim also looked into the current situation of the club with CEO Omar Bellada and technical director Jason Wilcox.

“New contract, he was offering me a new contract,” the United boss joked at a press conference on Friday.

“No, it’s normal to just show support and explain it to be a long project. He said it was my first season many times, not for me, but it’s normal.

“I’m just talking to him, Omar and Jason, trying to see all the data around the team. There were some normal meetings, but at this moment it’s a normal person paying attention to it.

“This is the club that puts the most pressure on us in the world. We want to win. Again, we can say anything. Last year I think I was very critical of the way we play. I think we play well until the box defends and attacks.

“We need to be more aggressive in the box. We need to be more clinical. The rest is improving compared to last year. We are in a better place.

“We need to win. We lost to Arsenal and to the city (Manchester) where we’re losing, here we’re the first one that’s been losing, especially since last year.

“We used our time to analyze the last game, analyze the next game, prepare different things, I think we’re playing well until we get to the box.

“The number of shots, XG, these are all good, but don’t score, you won’t win the game.

“The way we struggled with our goals can avoid it. We need to be naive and more aggressive to win the game. We need to not only maintain the way we play, but also improve our opponent’s boxes and our boxes.

“Especially against Chelsea. When they cross, they have more people in the box and we’re suffering a bit with Fulham. We do a lot of work a week to get better about it.

“It’s always the same cycle. To analyze what we did wrong over the weekend and improve next week.”
